The Fighting Illini

Hello everyone! Today is themed Tuesday! Now this past weekend my mother went to an Illini football game and she asked me to paint her nails blue and orange so she could match the team. I, of course, said yes. I also decided to do a little more than just the colors. I wanted to add details! So I drew the ever so famous logo of the Illini, the bold, outlined "I".

I would love to tell you guys what nail polish I used but, I used colors that my mother picked out and I cannot for the life of me remember what brand they are. If I figure that out, I will add that to this post so you all can have the same colors. I thought I would feature this design for today because the whole situation of painting my mother's nails was funny. I painted hers and her friends nails while eating dinner at T.G.I. Fridays. I did not get to eat because I was so busy doing all of the little details on each and every individual nail. Not to mention that they were eating so I was constantly afraid they were going to mess them up. However, I thought they turned out okay for painting them in a restaurant with little to no lighting.

Let me know what you guys think! If you would like to see a tutorial of this design, or any design, please feel free to email me or drop your suggestion in the tutorial suggestion box. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Solid Monday

Hello ladies! I am back with a strong solid Monday color. It's a pastel blue. Kleancolor does such a nice job picking the perfect shades. Even though this color is more for springtime I cannot get over how pretty the color is. So I had to feature it today. Like I've said a hundred times, Kleancolor is one of my favorite brands of nail polish of all time. It's perfect shades mixed with no chip polish. It goes on and comes off clean and it has one coat coverage.

This color also goes perfect with my light blue sweater that I have. That's right it's sweater season (at least in the Chicagoland area). The high yesterday was 35 degrees and my father told me that it was 80 degrees in California! I need to move pronto! I hate the cold weather.

This color, even though lighter than usual for this time of the year, is a perfect color to start off the cold weather. It reminds me of snow. I sure hope that doesn't come any time soon. There you have it ladies my solid Monday color. Please send in pictures of your solid colors and I will feature them on my next Monday post!

I used:
Kleancolor "Pastel Teal" (#142)
Sally Hansen's Double Duty "Base & Top Coat" (#3099)

To Try Thursday

Sharpie nail art
Hello everyone! Today is to try Thursday and boy do I have a treat for this week!! This week I am trying a new technique that I discovered while browsing Pinterest. It's Sharpie nail art! I did not know that you could write on your nails with Sharpie permanent markers and be able to take it off with just rubbing alcohol. Of course, I HAD to try this! So, try this one out ladies! Had I known that this was possible, I would have done it a long time ago! Paint your nails with whatever color you want and do a Sharpie nail design! Just remember to put a clear coat over your design to seal it in. Send your designs to my email address and I will post a collage of everyone's designs on Saturday when I post my results! Happy nail painting everyone!

Top 5 Nail Brands

Okay so I have not tried every single brand of nail polish so I'll rephrase that. I am featuring my top five nail brands of right now! Let me start off by saying that are a lot of really good brands of nail polish but if I had to narrow it down, these are the five I would choose.

#5: Sinful Colors

Sinful colors will always be one of my favorite brands of nail polish solely for the colors they have. If I was comparing quality, Sinful colors would not be on my top five. The colors that they produce are always so beautiful! I am a huge fan of neon colors so, Sinful colors is perfect for me. Most of there colors embrace the feeling of summer to me. They are all so bright and colorful instead of just being dull, boring colors. Again as far as quality goes, they take a long time to dry, they chip easily, and they usually need more than one coat because the polish isn't as thick.

#4: Colorshow
Now Colorshow I like a lot. They have just recently started coming out with new colors and textures. They include all the colors of the rainbow! What do I like most about it? They have crazy colors and they are good quality! They usually only need one coat, (depending on how dark the color is) and they are durable! Colorshow usually lasts up to seven days before chipping. That's a whole lot better than Sinful colors! Right now I am more a fan of them because they have started making a lot of different textured nail polish. I cannot wait to try them all!

#3: O.P.I.
Of course O.P.I. is on my list. They are one of the very top brands of nail polish. They are also very expensive. The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't feature crazy colors like Sinful colors or Colorshow. I believe that O.P.I. is geared more towards older women who are not in the bright color phase anymore. Even though I don't want to face it as women get older, the more they would rather have a solid neutral color on their nails instead of teenager bright colors. O.P.I. is great though because you have one coat coverage, fast drying, and no chipping for up to fourteen days!

#2 Kleancolor
Obviously you all probably knew I was going to put Kleancolor on my top five nail brands. This brand has always been good to me and has always been really cheap. The only bad thing is, you don't see this brand in stores very often, if ever. The only place I have been able to find it is one Amazon. Kleancolor features not only brilliant colors, but also one coat coverage, super fast drying, and no chipping for up to fourteen days. I just fell in love with their colors the minute I laid eyes on all forty of them that my wonderful sister bought for me for my birthday last year 2012. Ever since that day, I have stuck by Kleancolor. There is only one brand that tops them.

#1 Essie
I have never been so impressed with a nail polish before. Essie has truly outdone itself. Essie not only features those radiant colors but they also promote no chipping for up to two weeks, one coat coverage, and fast drying. The thing I love most about this brand is that there is a HUGE assortment of colors to try! Essie has so many different colors it is hard to decide on one. I have also noticed that Essie doesn't get goopy and thick from sitting for awhile. You know when you have that one nail polish that you never use but then one day you really want to use it but when you open it it is super thick and possibly chunky? I have found that Essie is the only brand that I have never seen this happen to.

There you have it. My top five favorite nail polish brands. If you want more information on one of these brands, feel free to email me and I will be more than happy to answer your questions!

Themed Tuesday

Hello ladies! Today is themed Tuesday and like I promised it is a Halloween style! I apologize for the lateness of uploading today. I’m having midterms all this week so I’m a little behind. Today I decided to feature Friday the 13th nails. For my thumb I put the hockey mask that Jason always wears and for the rest of my nails I put bloody fingerprints. This design was very simple. The only hard part was painting the hockey mask. I did not have my dotting tools with me when I did this design so bear with me on the sloppiness. If you would like a tutorial, I will show you using those special tools to make it look a little neater. This design encompasses a scary look. I used an almost blood red for the fingerprints. I thought it looked really cool.

I am also very happy it is Halloween season because all of the intense scary movies are on television including all of the Friday the 13th movies, which happen to be some of my favorites. There are many more Halloween designs to come in the next two weeks so please come back and see those. If you have a design you would like to see that is not on my blog please feel free to send a description or a photo and I will do my best to recreate it and make a tutorial for you!

Again, if you would like to see a tutorial on this design feel free to email me or drop a suggestion in the tutorial suggestion box. Happy Halloween everyone!

Solid Monday/Fall Surprises

Kleancolor "Jazz Olive" (#118)
Hello everyone! For this week's solid Monday post I chose a metallic green by Kleancolor. I know I need to switch up brands because I always use Kleancolor but I cannot stress enough how amazing this brand is and how cheap it is. For today's post I chose "Jazz Olive" (#118). This color encompasses the Fall season to me. Metallics are in right now especially in the Fall color palette. It's a little harder to match your outfits to green but you could use any metallic color to really pull the Fall look off. If you put a layer of Sally Hansen's Double Duty Top & Base coat, it adds even more shine to your nails to make them even more noticeable. I am also featuring something very special this week! I just found a new nail design trick that I cannot wait to share with all of you! So make sure you come back and see what that's all about!

Fall Season Goodies!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the pumpkins, Halloween, sweaters, hot cocoa, bonfires, and Thanksgiving. So I decided that today I was going to feature some of my favorite Fall things. (Sorry they don't really have to do with nails at all).

First I would like to start off with 3 of my favorite fall foods. Caramel apples are my all time favorite. When this season rolls around, those are the first things that I pick up from the apple orchard. If you live around the Dekalb, Illinois area there is a great apple orchard to buy these from. It's called Edward's Orchard. Not only do they have great apples but they also have the best apple cider and apple cider donuts. They also include a petting zoo, buffet, live band, and a fun maze for kids to run through. It's an overall great place for families to go. If you have never been there, check it out. The next food item on my list is apple pie bites. They are so cute! You slice up an apple and roll each apple slice into a crescent roll and coat it with cinnamon and sugar. They are to die for and they are so easy! The next food is little pumpkin cheesecakes! They don't even need to bake. These are so incredibly good and very easy to make also. You can even buy some cinnamon sticks for a cute addition! If you love pumpkin, this a must try recipe! I have to links for both recipes below if you'd like to give either a try!

Apple Pie Bites
Mini Pumpkin Cheesecakes

I have one more fall related feature to talk about and ladies that is fall clothing! Sweaters, jeans, leggings, boots, scarves, hats, and mittens! Everything about fall clothes makes me happy. I love wearing big, over-sized sweaters with leggings and a pair of Uggs. Then you come home after school or work and curl up under a blanket and watch crappy movies and sip on hot cocoa. It's my favorite time of the year especially if you have a boy to cuddle up with. This leads to another reason why I love this season so much. Scary movies! I live to find a movie that scares the crap out of me. The one movie that still scares me every time I watch it is Insidious. I also recently saw The Conjuring which gave me the chills. It was super creepy and made me jump multiple times. I also admit that I may have screamed out lot a couple of times in the theater. There are thousands of reasons why I love fall so much but if I listed them all, you would all probably get very bored.

Make sure you keep checking my blog all week because I will be starting to feature Halloween designs! Once again if there is a design that you wanna see done whether it was from my blog or somewhere else, please email me. I would more than willing to figure it out and post a tutorial! Happy fall everyone!

To Try Thursday Results

And we've reached a verdict! I finally finished my to try Thursday nails! It was very easy, much easier and quicker than I thought it was going to be. If you remember from Thursday, the nail design I chose was a light pink with black and white feathers painted on top. Well, I did not have a pink that I really liked with the design so I decided to switch it up a little bit. I painted my nails with Essie's "Mint Candy Apple" (#702) and then used Sinful colors black and white to paint the feathers. I also added in an accent nail of silver glitter. I know in the photo I posted Thursday, every single nail was different. However, I think that look is too busy. So I painted each nail the same except for my ring fingers. I think the design looks a lot better this way.

Let me know what you ladies think of my modified design! Also if you're interested in learning how this design was done please email me and I will do my best to post a tutorial as quickly as possible. You can send me an email with requests or you can also drop a tutorial request in the tutorial submission box.

Nail colors and links to Amazon used in this design:

Essie's "Mint Candy Apply" (#702)
Sinful colors "Snow Me White" (#101)
Sinful colors "Black on Black" (#103)
Sinful colors "Queen of Beauty" (#923)

Essie's Neon Collection

Hello everyone! For today's vibrant Friday I decided to do things a little bit differently. Instead of featuring one bright nail polish color, I decided to feature an entire collection. I had heard of Essie nail polish before but had never actually tried it. So I went out and bought some and tested it out. Essie is one of the top brands of nail polish so when I went to Target and picked one up and saw it was $8 for one bottle, I died a little inside. I don't like spending money in general but $8 for a bottle of nail polish is a little ridiculous in my opinion. Regardless, I bought it just so that I could try it and talk about it. Now, I know that some of you have heard the saying,

"You get what you pay for."

Well it is 100% true. Sinful colors is approximately $2 per bottle but Essie is $8. Compare the two and we find that Sinful colors chips easier, needs more coats, and is closer to the consistency of water. Essie has one coat coverage, doesn't chip, and is thicker than most nail polishes. So, you truly do get what you paid for. I like Essie a lot, I just wish it was cheaper.

The collection of colors I chose is made by Essie. I have chosen two of these colors to expand on. The first is called "Bouncer, it's me!" (#3013). It is a solid, bright blue. I went with this color because blue is one of my favorite colors and it's the perfect blue. It's perfect for a night out with friends and a cute outfit that will really make your nails pop.

The second color I want to feature is called "DJ play that song!" (#3011). It is a bright mix between pink and purple. It's close to a fuchsia color but it looks radioactive when it's on your nails. All of the Essie neon colors seem to glow when you finish painting them. It really gets peoples attention. You can find Essie nail polish almost everywhere. But below I posted a link to Amazon where you can find great nail polish for better prices. Like the quote states you really do get exactly what you pay for. Kleancolor is still my favorite brand because it offers everything Essie offers and it's almost $5 cheaper. So ultimately it's up to you. In my opinion, Essie vs Kleancolor, Kleancolor will always win.

To Try Thursday

Good morning! I’ve got a design to try this week that doesn’t really go with the seasons. Baby pinks are better for springtime but I liked this one so I decided to try it. Also, you do not have you use a pastel pink underneath the feathers. You can use any color you want as long as the black and white parts of the feathers are still visible. This design stuck out to me because it is so basic yet so elegant. The feathers add a touch of class to your nails. Don’t you remember watching old, black and white movies where almost all of the women were wearing a feather on their hat? That’s kind of what I’m talking about. It shows that you are high class. Now the picture shows that all of the different nails have different designs on them and only one carries the feather. You can chose to do it this way if you’d like. I’m not a huge fan of every single nail being completely different. It seems to make your nails look too busy. However, if you did feathers on all but one nail and made that famous accent nail, it would très mignon! Sorry, that means very cute in French. I started feeling super high maintenance. I apologize.

This design is not only high class but it’s very easy! I can’t wait to get started and see the results! Remember ladies, if you want to try this design and email me a picture and your name; I will post my favorite one alongside mine on my results page on Saturday. I would also like to hear what you think of this design so feel free to post comments! Happy nail painting!

Sally Hansen's Real Nail Polish Strips

40 Fashion Forward Styles
Have any of you tried Sally's Nail Polish Strips? I want to try them extremely bad but I also feel like it's cheating. I have this thought in the back of mind that I can free hand those designs, I don't need a stupid sticker. But yet, they keep drawing me in and I finally caved! Sally Hansen has really done well with these. They are easy to use and they last up to 10 days. Now, the one I tried was called "Love Letter" (#410). They went on super easy and the best part is that they don't require dry time! It's like instant super detailed nails without having to wait for each layer to dry. They are super nice to have if you're busy like me. However, every once in awhile I like to detail my own nails. It's such an accomplishing feeling when I design my nails myself and they look super good. I am a big fan of my themed Tuesday post from yesterday. The "Gravity" nails were so pretty!

Sally Hansen's Nail Polish Strips were top rated among tons of reviewers as being long-wearing, fast-drying, and chip-resistant. People have also said that they are no expensive either. This makes painting your nails cheap and easy! I also found that these stickers are extremely easy to remove. All you need is your typical nail polish remover and they come off. Again, the only issue I have with these is I am already a lazy person. Now that they made detailed stickers I can put on my nails, it makes me not want to actually paint them. That is the only downside. Otherwise if you are not artistically talented, (and let's be honest some people just don't have it), these are a great option for you. They will give cute designs and it only takes a couple minutes. You can even mix and match them. Or if you're feeling super adorable, only put a sticker on the accent nail and then paint an associating color on the other four nails. Attention will soon be drawn to your hands.

You can find Sally Hansen's Salon Effects at Walgreens, Walmart, Target, Sally's Beauty Supply, and more.

"Gravity"

Hello ladies! As you know today is themed Tuesday!! I would also like to apologize if my blog looks weird or some buttons aren't working. I am currently altering my layout and editing my html code and it's a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. So, sorry for that. However, I am still going to enlighten you with a badass nail design!

On October 4, 2013 a movie premiered starring Sandra Bullock called Gravity. This was a highly anticipated film and the reviews are saying that it was amazing. Rotten Tomatoes says that Gravity is an,

"Eerie, tense sci-fi thriller that's masterfully directed and visually stunning."

In honor of this film, I decided to make themed Tuesday all about this movie! I designed small galaxies on each individual nail since this movie takes place in outer space. This design was not terribly hard either and didn't take very long. All you need is a sponge. If you would like to see how this was done, please email, facebook, or twitter me and I will be more than happy to post a tutorial by tomorrow!

The nail polish I used for this design include:
Kleancolor's "Neon Sapphire" (#15)
Kleancolor's "Bikini Blue" (#25)
Kleancolor's "Vegas Night" (#96)
Kleancolor's "Silver Star" (#31)
Sinful Colors' "Snow Me White" (#101)
Sally Hansen's Base & Top Coat (#3099)

Solid Monday

Hello ladies. I apologize sincerely for not posting my surprise for you guys on Saturday night. It did not work out the way I wanted it too and I didn't want to post a crappy picture of it so I decided to scrap it. However, for today I have a Fall color for you. For today I wanted to go brown to stay with the seasons theme. I used Kleancolor which I cannot recommend more. It is by far my favorite brand of nail polish. It usually only takes one coat so if you're in a hurry you can paint your nails in less than 15 minutes. Also, it's nice and thick so it doesn't chip. Kleancolor will last up to two weeks. It's the best brand that I have tried so far. The name of the color is just "Brown". What a dull name for a color right? I was so disappointed by the name when I picked it up. I enjoy reading the names that some people give colors. It's amazing how weird they can be. But this color didn't seem brown to me. It seemed more mahogany than brown. I like it though. It's pretty neutral and doesn't stand out like most of the colors I wear but, it's versatile and goes with almost anything. If you're looking to make your nail color last awhile, this would be a good color to have. That way you can match your clothes to your nails and your whole look will really tie together. I hope you guys enjoyed this week's solid Monday choice. What did you guys choose this week? If you would like to email a picture of your solid color, I will be more than happy to include my favorite solid nail color of yours on my solid Monday post for the next week. I would love to know what you guys are choosing and I would love to feature it right here for everyone else to see. Let's get a good start to our week and look forward to the theme I chose for tomorrow! I can't wait to share!

For this color, I used:
Kleancolor's "Brown" (#51)

To Try Thursday Results

As promised, I posted the results of my to try Thursday. It went pretty well except with the glitter I used. I felt that when I was done there was too much glitter. I think the next time I try this design I am going to use a lighter glitter. Again, if you would like to see how I did this just submit a tutorial request in the tutorial submission bar. I would be more than happy to post a video tutorial for you.

The week is almost over. The stresses of my exams are now out of the way so I can provide better posts. Today is my grandma's 80th birthday party. So I have a special surprise in store for you guys tonight. I did a very special design in honor of a very incredible grandma. So you won't want to miss that.

Vibrant Friday

Hello ladies! It's vibrant Friday today. The day where I chose one bright color to feature for the week. For this week I chose a vibrant green. In the spirit of Fall and the leaves changing from green to yellows, oranges, reds, and browns, I wanted to feature green to say goodbye to summer.

The green that I used is called "Innocence" (#944) by Sinful Colors. This green is fun because it has a pastel look to it. You also only need one, possibly two coats. The only thing that I don't like about Sinful Colors nail polish is that it chips very easily. I can only get about 2-3 days before it starts chipping. I also decided to make an accent nail for you. I know I've been talking about accent nails a lot in my past posts so I decided to show you what I meant. I used Sinful Colors' "Queen of Beauty" (#923) for the glittered accent nail. I just painted two to three coats of the glitter on my ring fingers and then topped it with Sally Hansen's Top & Base Coat.

What color did you chose for vibrant Friday?

To Try Thursday

Hello everyone! Today is to try Thursday so I'll be showing you one nail design that I've found that I really want to try and then on Saturdays I will post my version of that same design.

For today, I chose this pink and silver glitter design. I have always done pink and glitter but never on all the nails. I love the contrast of this idea of starting with the glitter then moving up the nail with the pink. It might be a little challenging. Send in your versions of this design to my email address. I would love to see how you guys did with this.

For this design I am going to use:

"Queen of Beauty" #923 by Sinful Colors
"24/7" #920 by Sinful Colors
"Snow Me White" #101 by Sinful Colors
"Base & Top Coat" #3099" by Sally Hansen

Top 5 Nail Colors

Hello ladies! Now Wednesday is supposed to be tutorial day but, since there were no tutorial requests I decided to give a top five of my favorite nail colors at the moment.
(1-5) From left to right

#5 "Americano" by Kleancolor (#44)
(As low as $3.85 on Amazon)
This metallic gold color is perfect for getting dressed up and going out to a fancy dinner. The name of it doesn't match at all. When I hear Americano I think maybe a red, blue, or white. This color just made my top five because it is so versatile. It can go with anything that you chose to wear. Plus, what girl can deny a color so shiny and gold?

#4 "Queen of Beauty" by Sinful Colors (#923)
(As low as $2.49 on Amazon)
The name of this color one hundred percent fits the mentality of the person wearing it. After 2-3 coats of this sparkly glitter, your entire nail sticks out even without light. This color made my top five because it is also extremely versatile. You can wear this glitter with any outfit. For the most part, I use this color for my accent nail. So only one nail is painted with this color. If you use this color for that purpose, it makes that nail stand out that much more. It also draws peoples attention to your nails.

#3 "Bikini Green" by Kleancolor (#24)
(As low as $0.90 on Amazon)
I don't know if I agree with the name of this color because you don't see many bikinis' in that bright of a green. This color is one of my all time favorites. It is so bright that everyone will see it. Not to mention it is a Kleancolor, so it is less likely to chip. This color made my top five because it goes on smoothly and in one coat. Therefore, even if you don't have a lot of time to paint your nails, you could spend 15 minutes painting them with this bright/semi pastel green.

#2 "Beach Blue" by Kleancolor (#25)
(As low as $0.90 on Amazon)
This is the blue that I selected for solid Monday this week. It is similar to the "Bikini Green" in that you only need one coat. I like this blue a lot because I feel that it is the perfect transition blue from Summer to Fall. It's bright like a summer color but it has an almost pastel look to it that goes well in the Fall. You'll see me feature this color a lot. As far as the name of the color, this doesn't really look like a beach blue to me. This blue looks more like the color of an eggshell when you paint eggs for Easter.

And the winner is...

#1 "24/7" by Sinful Colors (#920)
(As low as $0.79 on Amazon)
This has to be my favorite color of all time. Maybe that's because pink is my favorite color but, it outranks them all. The only thing I don't like about it is that it chips a lot easier than the Kleancolor brand and you need 2-3 coats for it to really pop. I would love this color even more if Kleancolor designed it. A good combination is to paint your thumb, index, middle, and pinky nails with "24/7" and then paint your ring finger with "Queen of Beauty". That is one of my favorite looks.
